Jan & I spent two delightful weeks during late March / early April in Italy with our good friends Tony & Diane DeMaria.
Tony & I worked closely together at KSA. He was my boss, mentor, and business advisor, as well as all-around supporter and friend during the last 15 years of my career there. We have maintained our friendship since I retired and the trip was an opportunity for the four of us -- Jan and I, and Tony and his wife Diane -- to spend time together, as well as for us to see Italy through the eyes of a couple who have been there numerous times. Diane and Tony are of Italian descent, and Italy is their favorite travel destination (to the point that Diane commented that she hasn't seen enough of the US!). They have visited the areas we toured many times before, and were interested in showing us the things they enjoyed most during their previous trips. We could not have had better guides.
This document focuses on our personal recollections of the trip and supplements the pictorial record.
During our trip we visited five cities in four regions (administrative units, comparable to our states): Portovenere (in the region of Liguria ); Siena and Fiesole (in Tuscany); Trevi, in (Umbria); and Rome (in Lazio).
